Hitting your 30’s this year and still don’t have a set skincare regimen?

Your skin might have the same issues in your 20’s but believe me, your skin changes completely when you enter your 30’s. When you are in your early 30s, the cell regeneration of your skin starts to slow down and you often end up noticing those early signs of ageing. Skin in your 20’s is beautiful, plump and vibrant because of its ability to regenerate new skin cells but in your 30’s this regeneration cycle goes lethargic.

It’s time to find your skin-friendly products that will not only work on your problem areas but will transform your face completely. Another important thing to keep in mind is the order of these products, if these products are applied in the right order then only your skin can make optimum use of the ingredients stored in these individual products.

Correct order for your skincare products

Your AM Routine

Step 1: Cleanser

Look for a gentle cleanser, skin in your 30’s is prone to so many issues. The harsh cleansers available in the market can strip the moisture barrier from your skin. You must invest in a gentle face cleanser. The best ones in the market are CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser & Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. These cleansers mentioned below will suit every skin type, especially dry and normal skin types. Choosing the right cleanser also depends on your skin type, I highly recommend the use of oil-free acne wash from Neutrogena if your skin type is oily and acne prone.

Step 2: Toner

Look for alcohol-free toners otherwise, you will end up drying your skin. Pixi Glow tonic is my cult favorite, I just can’t stop loving this toner and how this toner has completely transformed my skin. I have extremely dry and hormonal skin and this toner has changed my life. Other great toners are from Mario Badescu Aloe toner, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner, Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner and Avène Gentle Toning Lotion are some of the gentle ones available in the market.

Step 3: Serum

If you want a brighter, glowing and firmer skin, add a vitamin C serum to your skincare routine. It’s a powerhouse of antioxidants that helps you get rid of the pigmentation, sun spots, dark spots and other stressors that affect your skin over the time. If you are using a vitamin C serum always use a sunscreen as your last step in your AM skincare routine otherwise you might end up getting sunburn. The best vitamin C serums available in the market are Drunk Elephant C-Firma, La Roche-Posay’s Vitamin C Serum, Vichy LiftActive Vitamin C Brightening Skin Corrector , Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum, SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, and TruSkin Vitamin C serum.

Step 4: Eye Cream

Do not ignore this step, nobody wants to see crow’s feet on our eyes in their old age. Start caring for your eyes from an early age. Your skin around the eyes is thinner and delicate than the other parts of your body. Your regular moisturiser can be sensitive for your delicate eye area. However, your eye creams have those special ingredients to debunk common issues like puffiness, dark circles and dryness. I highly recommend using natural combinations for those with sensitive eyes. My most favorite eye creams are Antipodes Kiwi Seed Eye Cream, Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, Olay Eyes Brightening Eye Cream, Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème and First Aid Beauty Niacinamide Brightening Cream

Step 5: Moisturiser

Go for a light moisturiser in the daytime or whatever suits you the most. This product can entirely depend on your choice to suit your skin type. I prefer using La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Sensitive Moisturiser, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (this is a bit on a heavy side if your skin is prone to dryness in winters), Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel, and Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, this one is on the expensive side but has amazing results when it comes to restoring the moisture for parched skin.

Step 6: Sunscreen

We often ignore wearing sunscreen but this is a vital step in your morning routine. UV rays from the sun not only harm your skin but ages your skin dramatically. I live in NZ and the sun is so harsh on the skin here. I was not in the habit of using a sunscreen when I came to NZ.  I started seeing the effects on my skin after a few years so I decided to make this a MUST step in my routine. Even at home during the day time I make sure I put sunscreen on my face even for the rays peeping through my windows. It doe not matter if you are going out or sitting inside, do not forget this step. Some of the amazing sunscreens are La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 50, Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40, Avène Mineral Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50+ and Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defence SPF 50

Your PM Routine

Step 1: Double Cleansing (Oil cleanser + your regular Cleansing)

Add an oil cleanser to your nighttime routine, oil cleansers make sure that every last bit of your makeup is removed from your face. Massage your face using an oil cleanser or a balm, some of the best ones available in the market are Trilogy rosehip transformation cleansing oil, Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil With Coconut & Argan Oils, Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil, Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil. Also, Huda’s Clean Genie Cleansing Butter is the new one which claims to remove long-wear makeup as well and it claims to be gentle on the skin.

Step 2: Toner – Using toner is an essential step in your night time routine but if you have extremely dry or sensitive skin then I would recommend using this only once a day, particularly in the day time. You can choose the same toner from the above given list in AM toners or you can incorporate a more hydrating one from the below given list. Avoid the ones with alcohol or with astringent formulas which is actually made for those with oily or acne prone skin to dry out the surface. Try one of these toners, your pores will definitely thank you for this step: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner, Ole Henriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner, Caudalie Vinopure Clear Skin Purifying Toner, and REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic

Step 3: Serum

Night serum should be more advanced and target-based, these serums can target the problem areas which needs to be fixed like the dark spots, dullness, pigmentation or wrinkles. Some of the best ones in the market are Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Facial Serum, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Serum, Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, Pixi Skintreats Overnight Glow Serum, and La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Serum

Step 4: Eye Cream

Carry on with this step using same products as mentioned above in the AM routine or you can try these other amazing eye creams which are rich in the texture and specially designed for the night time to give extra boost of hydration to those tiered eyes. Try ESTÉE LAUDER Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery, CLINIQUE Pep-Start Eye Cream, Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye, FRESH Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate, Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream and La Roche-Posay Redermic Vitamin C Anti-Ageing Eye Cream.

Step 5: Moisturizer

It’s important to invest in a heavy moisturiser at night because your skin needs extra hydration during the night time while it repairs itself. Yes, your skin generates good cells at night and keeping it hydrated will help these good cells. I have extremely dry skin so for me the formula has to be little heavy like First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream works wonders for my skin. You can also use Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream, Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream, Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque.

Step 6: Face oil

Finally, the last step in your PM routine should be a nice face oil to lock in the moisture for the night time. Yes, people even with oily and acne-prone skin can use a face oil. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is the best out of the lot no matter what your skin type is. Other amazing face oils are Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil, Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil, Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil, and Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil. There is one more which is my most favourite one and has transformed my dry sensitive hormonal skin to a great extent. Its Go-To Face Hero Face Oil, this oil is super amazing. There is no doubt that why this oil has been raved by mecca girls and has the highest star rating on their site.

Alrighty, that’s all I wanted to share with you people about a perfect skincare routine. I would like to suggest that every skin is unique, I had to try a lot of products to test and see what is working best for my skin. Just remember skincare is an investment, you must be skeptical in the starting to invest in these products but after seeing the results and the good skin days you will say that it was all worth it!
